It’s Handel’s Messiah as you’ve never seen it before! Ulster Touring Opera is delighted to partner with Merry Opera Company in bringing this beautiful and innovative staged production of Handel’s iconic masterpiece to Northern Ireland.
This year will mark the 15th tour of this critically acclaimed production, which has been seen over 14,600 audience members. Visionary director John Ramster reimagined the Messiah, presenting twelve strangers seeking spiritual comfort in their struggle to understand the world. Encountering each other in a church, the characters inspire one another to pick up the ragged threads of their lives and look to the future with hope.
Departing from the traditional way of performing the Messiah as a choral oratorio, this production is an immersive experience for the audience, with the performers inhabiting the whole space to bring Handel’s glorious music to life. By the end of this intimate performance, the audience has gone on a journey through birth, death and resurrection, shining a new light on what the Messiah’s librettist Charles Jennens called the “Mystery of Godliness”. Halleluiah!
“A powerful and affirming performance … a delight. Bringing the singers out from behind their scores brought out the human character of this music” – Opera Now
